The Paraspinal Muscles
How back muscles contribute to movement and how to train them without oversimplified imbalance claims.
The erector spinae, multifidus, quadratus lumborum, abdominal wall, diaphragm, pelvic floor, hips, and many smaller muscles coordinate movement and stiffness. Labels such as “local stabilizer” and “global mover” can aid teaching, but the body does not recruit muscles in isolated categories during real tasks.
